This lovely soap is a beautiful sculpture for your home, fantastic for your skin, and a meaningful gift which gives to many. As seen in gift guides including People Magazine, Treehugger, GOOD, & a lovely blogpost by Kevin Roberts, the CEO of Saatchi & Saatchi Worldwide "Taking a Bird in Hand"
Each black, bird shaped soap contains a white, ceramic bird, handmade from Louisiana Clay, which remains as a keepsake once the outer soap has washed away.
Through the daily act of washing, you will eventually free the clean, white, ceramic birds inside - potent symbols of restoration and recovery. The soap is shaped to be cradled in your hand and is a powerful representation of all creatures affected by the BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill Disaster.
The soaps are made with natural, locally sourced ingredients: biodiesel glycerin, fair trade olive oil, aloe, activated black charcoal, and a light cypress scent - reminiscent of Louisianan bayous. They are made by Emily Manger Davis of Sweet Olive Soaps, a third generation soapmaker from New Orleans.
50% of proceeds are donated to to environmental cleanup and care for affected animals of the BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill Disaster. [Gulf Restoration Network & IBRRC] $21,000 donated and counting!
To prolong the life of handmade soap please keep in a soap dish and allow to dry between uses. Store in a cool and dry place until ready for use.
+ If in New Orleans, happy to arrange pickup & refund shipping!
++ More details about the soaps! They are all natural [they contain no shea butter or animal products - I've received many thank you's from that for those that are allergic] and are really wonderful for your skin. The lovely soap is great for all skin types and is not drying for daily use. The heavenly Rigaud Cypress scent has a rich history which began in Paris in 1850 and is delightful for both women and men.
+++ p.s. - Have also received many letters that this pretty handsoap beats out other soaps in the house for removing tough stains or dirt on your hands. Even stubborn paint, tree sap, & EVEN crawfish boil residue!
Testimonial from International Bird Rescue:
“The idea for BirdProject is so simple yet resonant, that of darkness washing away to something flawless and beautiful. We see this first hand all the time at International Bird Rescue. Birds that come to us covered in oil and thick tar get a second chance when they’re thoroughly washed and nursed back to health. We are so grateful for our partnership with BirdProject. This is a company that walks the walk, and knows exactly what we mean when we say, “Every Bird Matters.”
